Ballett Zürich: Romeo und Julia

German premiere

Everything began with Christian Spuck. It was his “Don Q.” that sowed the seeds of Gauthier Dance and the enduring enthusiasm for dance at the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. Now the former resident choreographer of the Stuttgart Ballet is returning as the director of his own company and bringing with him the first classic he created for the Ballett Zürich: Segei Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Two lovers in world full of violence, a friar who wants to reconcile the warring clans, a scream in a sea of candles: here Shakespeare’s famous love story is given a dark, modern setting inhabited by power mongers and perplexed intellectuals. In a world characterised by barriers and prejudice, genuine emotions can only be experienced physically.

“A successful new beginning full of heart“ – Neue Zuercher Zeitung

“Boisterously and wholeheartedly staged“ – Stuttgarter Nachrichten
