Francesca Harper: The Look of Feeling

(New York/USA)

German Premiere

A daughter tells her mother’s story in a way that is glamorous and theatrical and highly personal. Denise Jefferson was a pioneer of black dance in America, a proud campaigner during the 1960s, a fearless woman full of energy. Her daughter, Francesca Harper, is a multi-talented artist, who has danced as a soloist with William Forsythe’s Frankfurt Ballet, performs on Broadway and in experimental dance productions, choreographs and writes songs. She is above all a captivating storyteller, who in this work brings the life of a strong, charismatic personality to the stage with great love and unexpected humour: en pointe and in the spirit of Martha Graham, with jazz, chansons and arias.

“Harper is the statuesque cleared eyed dancer sings the body electric (…) moves from innocence to experience with such grace.” – The New Yorker
