Teac Damsa: Swan Lake/Loch na hEala

German premiere

No white tutus, no Tchaikovsky: this “Swan Lake” is set in the raw solitude of rural Ireland. The depressive prince is supposed to leave his house and wants to commit suicide, the priest has abused a girl, and refreshments at the grand ball consist of cans of lager. In Michael Keegan-Dolan’s grotesque dance theatre, village satire becomes a horror story, fairytale characters are subject to the demands of concrete social politics, and two broken figures find each other in a liberating, celebratory dance. To live music featuring fiddle, nyckelharpa and modern electronics, the world of Irish legend collides with a disturbing reality, choreographed by an artistic all-rounder who is currently emerging as an international star and who turns our perceptions upside down.

„Absolutely brilliant“ - The Irish Independent

„A stunning piece of theatre, simultaneously compelling, disturbing and breathtakingly beautiful.“ – The Irish Times
